A proposal - our own debate.

A Moderator (not necessarily someone that moderates ozforum)
Labor Stooge
Liberal/National Stooge
Green Stooge

Eg. Topic: xxxxx
Labor outlines their response to issue
Liberal/National outlines their response to the issue
Green outlines their response to the issue

Moderator can then ask for any quick rebuttals the moderator deems necessary.

Not a chance - three years ago this forum was good for reasoned debate and discussion.  Today there are too many that can't see the logic for the ideology from both the left and right.

I'll even go as far as nominating LenWX for the Conservative side
And either Smokey or Adrian for the Greens - Either/or because I'm not convinced that Adrian is a Green, s/he can put us straight there.
I'm not sure who is Labor here though so I can't recommend someone

Now its up to them to accept.  If they don't, I don't think there is much of a chance for a reasoned debate either 2353

And I'll nominate Stanley for Labor.
Or Ebenezer

Senexx,

I commend you putting forward the idea. The problem I see with it from my end is that although I am undoubtedly conservative in my political viewpoint, I am not a "Liberal/National stooge".

I know what you meant and I don't take offence, but my personal views are not necessarily aligned with the Coalition. This is probably also true of any Green and ALP debater.

A debate between three people is frustrating to the others who would love to jump in as they do in all the debates on this blog. How many times have you sat through listening to a debate and mouthed a clever response under your breath with great frustration as to why the debater (on your side) didn't think of it?

An open debate is still the best option, but the idea of a strong moderator keeping people on topic and even asking questions, appeals.

LenWX, I am glad you knew what I meant and didn't take offence.  I agree that it is true of any partisan debater and probably true of any non-partisan debate.
I imagine out of the three big ones, the LNP coalition, greens and Labors your view matches the LNPs more than the other two.  Is that correct?

I'm sure this is rhetorical but the answer is never.  On top of that I have read little of substantive comment from many on here on any issue.  There was a debate between me and Adrian on economics and a debate between just about everyone on the board about climate change and the proposed solutions.  They're the only substantive contributions I recall during my time here.

This debate is the solution I think.  We could remove the constraints of being "party stooges" and allow each representative, Conservative, Green, Liberal (in the American sense) i.e. Labor on policy issues and each can draw on policy solutions from real life or create their own.

If this goes ahead (which I doubt since it has gone along this quietly for so long already), I propose the debate ends August 20th

Thanks for the vote Senexx but Tobe would do a far better job than me, he did a great job on the Labor ets a while ago, and my belief in Labor is a little shaky at the moment, + I am to lazy on the detail.
Cheers Eb.
